Oh ! Please appreciate.

There was a time in India when no one was expecting any praise. They lived by the bhagavath  Geetha .." do your duty and await no fruit" And it was actually a sin to praise some one on their face. Mukasthuthi was what it was called and ridiculed by wise men. Kings had been warned of those flatterers as it might stunt his growth and good rule. There is a ' kural' which alarms a King " if there were no one to point out his short comings he would be doomed even without any back stabbers" People were wary of this menace and avoided the appreciation/praise going to their head and toppling them to hell. And then the western culture stormed in making every one guilty of not expressing appreciation for all and sundry acts done. Even brushing your teeth had to be appreciated ." you should get awe struck at every thing .Go gaga over little and big things alike. Schools which were once terror spots for all those back benchers and 'i care not about home work ' kinds are now a paradise as the teachers are warned of untoward happenings and beware! They are advised by all those self appointed human rightists as to be polite and appreciative about all those wrong doers ,teasers and Unruly mobs called students aka non performing. At home front the parents with single child syndrome await any silly opportunity to praise the kid. And await any silly opportunity to get the other party guilty of not noticing the finer details of the child. There are a whole lot of psychiatrists who earn their living just by advising and supervising appreciation. "All the parents all the teachers and all those managers out their are here by pronounced guilty "is their   Verdict irrespective of the other party's pleading innocence/ignorance. Politicians' life line is throbbing only by the appreciation level maintained at the peak.forgetting the thirukkural which they often quote. They are ready to pay any price for the praise.( oh..please appreciate this poetic line!)  Loves break ,marriages crack, relationships burst, office comes to a stand still and the students hang themselves all because this one sin 'no appreciation". The appreciation level reaches a peak when the person dies. He is praised about all those acts which went unnoticed until his death. The walk ,the talk ,the Look, his view on life( poor fellow he never lived to see it all!) any ordinary comment during his lifetime about any ordinary event takes a higher podium and given a new meaning .  You are a sinner if you do not appreciate it ...i mean approve it!   So go on praise some one you come across and join the band wagon. Of course chances are you would get a taste of this mukasthuti . Be a Roman in Rome.
