would some one hear me...!!
suddenly out of the blue the truth hits on the head. you are old!!
and then the fact becomes larger and larger like the fish in
the mathsya avathar.
all the things that you took for granted becomes a luxury. say 'you want reach the top of your cupboard by just one jump and your leg refuses even the attempt. you wish to move the dining table by pushing it with one hand but what is that that stops you. it is the shooting pain in the shoulder.
and so with numerous such reminders you resign to the fact. but then while your other karmendhriyas accept the fact, the main indhriya 'the mouth ' which gets to do two jobs 'eating and talking is in full swing in both the jobs.
the irony is, that is when you are advised to take dieting seriously .this is for the first job. about the second i.e talking you have 100 things to say but no takers! the moment you start 'i used to be....' or 'when i was..'...there go all the ears deaf and the bodies move in a faster pace.
one more irony is, that is when you also become stubborn and ready to knock at any thing or any body. so you act like the erstwhile 'vikramadhityaa' who never gives up.
different tactics are used to make the ears (of others i remind you! because your ears have taken VRS long back!) listen.
one way is to go and sit in front of the ready to leave person and block until they reluctantly accept the fate.
then there is the invention of graham 'bell' (who by the way was aptly named by his mom!).
you meticulously dial the number making sure they are as busy a bee and start leisurely your owes and some rare happy things.
there are many such methods like catching the poor some one who is a lending librarian or a courier fellow worst of all a simple passer by.
your family must have lost such services long back by the perseverance of you!!
the worst affected relationship is the neighbours'.
after all your ventures to make people squirm under their seats you declare the world has no time for older people and the youngsters are nothing but a bunch of brats. worst hit in this declaration is the middle generation. they have to satisfy the whims of two different generations and invariably lose the battle.
Is this a new problem or as old as mount everest? It is the oldest one ofcourse. but how it was managed until the recent past generation makes us think again. they made sure the elders had a common place to meet and listen to each other.(not necessary to hear! any way it would be a one way communication only!) there were big temples with vast 'praharams' there were 'thinnais' and the erstwhile banyan trees with platforms built around specifically for such purposes. these having gone and occupied by concrete trees and temples becoming cramped with all kinds of Gods at one place and the thinnais are thing of past where do these ' listen to me' people will turn to but the family and those i mention above!!?

While graceful exit or retirement ( or more recently voluntary retirement is well established in work or corporate life it is perhaps not so in the personal life. Perhaps it is hard to predict when the bell would ring. In my opinion the older lot have lived in much more demanding environments during their days and can actually well adapt themselves to the so called modern pace of life. It is just that some of them dont care to do so.
Coming to a place on the cyberspace where the elderly can part take.. there are recent studies that confirm that the are many computer savvy elders who are actively blogging.
