old story in new

once there were two families of sparrows living in a dense forest. one family ,let us a name it as chikku ' had three chicks while the other one, we will call him as makku had two..brats as chicks. all the chicks of chikku and makku would play happily out in the woods under the watch ful eyes of chikku's wife. while makku's wife would claim sickness all the time chikku's wife was a happy mom bringing in fresh worms to eat for her chicks and twigs and pebbles for them to play.
chikku was very friendly and also very hard working. during summer when the twigs of trees were dry and crispy he would collect them and build a cozy nest. to add soft interior he would go round gather silk cotton seeds break them and spread them on the inner nest. he would fly around again and gather seeds and grains storing them for rainy days.
makku would sit out side his tattered nest and make fun of chikku " oh!!chikku is it not a waste of time to fly every where and safe guard your nest and chicks while it is time to enjoy the sunshine ?" "you can do all these hectic works later. look at me .sure I have no proper nest.so what? i have all of three months before rain sets in. i can build a cozy nest in a jiffy and make my self comfy you know" saying this makku laid back with a worm which it happened to find nearby.
chikku had no time to answer makku . He was busy with his collection of things.
after about a week chikku settled down satisfied with his completely furnished well equipped nest. makku came near chikku for a chit chat. both were having good time discussing all subjects under the sky.
Suddenly out of no where dark clouds started gathering and in no time heavy spell of down pour started. chikku went in hurriedly to know his chicks are safe and found them playing happily in their cozy beds blissfully unaware of the lashing rains out side. Makku was taken by surprise by the untimely rain and found it hard to cover himself and his family from the thunder storm.
he spent an hour or so like this and finally decided to ask chikku's help. as night was setting in chikku collected some glow worms flying and hung them inside his nest. makku came inside and found chikku's nest was a paradise with neatly arranged beds and well lit hall. he hesitantly asked "chikku , is it OK if we all come to your house for tonight?
though chikku cannot accommodate them all he was good enough say yes. with in no time, all the boistrous chicks of makku and his sickly wife were in side the cozy nest. they helped themselves with all the grains and worms stacked in a corner and rolled over the silk cotton beds shouting in shrilled voices.
the night was indeed a nightmare for the chikku family. morning the rain stopped and makku and family reluctantly left the nest of chikku. as the morning was shining with bright sun makku relaxed under a shady tree day dreaming while his chicks were chirping amongst themselves about the great time they had the night before. they came near makku and said"appa, let us also have a nest like the chikkus" makku said" hey kids, yesterday's rain was a freak of nature. we have three more months before the monsoon season. then i would make a better home than chikkus. now go and play and enjoy" and rolled over to continue his musings.

that night all of a sudden it started pouring again . makku wasted no time to knock the door of chikku.
he called out" it is raining it is pouring the makku's are shivering...wont you open the door to let us in"............chikku answered from inside" the rain will go the shine will come wait for the day to dream"
makku begged" the chicks are hungry my wife is sleepy wont you let me in"
chikku was stubborn and replied" lazy sparrows idle wives do not have place in my haven.go away and come not again"
makku had no other way but to wait until day break and the rain to stop.
the next day saw makku in busy mode. his chicks scrambling for dry leaves his wife busy collecting grains and shouting at makku to hurry up with the nest.
chikku and family heard the noise and came out. Seeing the makkus trying to build a nest the chikkus hurried to pitch in. with the expertise of chikku ,makku built a comfortable nest . and makku's wife invited chikkus for a simple yet delicious dinner. chikku expressed his pleasure seeing makku settled.Now makku was visibly happy to see his chicks sleeping on a cozy bed while it was raining outside.
